Game Over

Ok, so my extreme shorter than short attention span has rendered c&c boring. I'm done with the game. Civ IV is out!!! But not right now, no, I'm not going to get sucked into it.

So we continue to pack.
Our motto for this relocation operation: THE LESS WE BRING, THE BETTER.
I bought nine 14 x 14 x 14 boxes, thinking to myself, "will these be enough?"

And amazingly, we came up with a grand total of 3 boxes of books to take (so far), not bad at all! With the essential-to-life-books packed (and taking up only 3 boxes!!!), I can officially declare that I'm happy as a laughing hyena. Hyenas have powerful jaws and I have no idea why I made that simile. 1 crate of magazines. (you know, those college dorm room staple, plastic storage things) Yes, the magazine junkie needs her stash. But I exercised restrain. Magazine level of new place will be back to NORMAL in no time anyway. Clothes... 1 large suitcase, 1 small suitcase as of now. Maybe another trunk load and another box. 1 box of papers. As in collection of samples for work and some bristol, some marker, some loose misc, some boxes of epsons. It's like the heaviest box so far.

Rough check list.
1 more box of books (remember pop ups)
2 artbin box of supplies + sketch books + misc art stuff
1 tool box
tv + tv stuff
CPUs + input/ouput stuff
lamp
pillows, blankies
bad ass tupper wares (these things are great, will tell you more in a later entry)

I think it's all going to fit in fred's dad's car. That means Fred's car will be nice and empty. And we won't be shipping anything. Yay!

Retro Gaming

By circa 2005 standards it's totally retro. Like it's from the last centurty, pretty ancient. I'm talking about COMMAND & CONQUER, RED ALERT. I am sorta hooked.

It's all Fred and Jesse's fault. They were having such a great time, I simply couldn't ignore the "guy"/male bonding thing they were doing. So I bugged them. And that cost me more hours than I'd like to admit. And I pulled an all nighter last night, messing up the normal hours that I am doomed to not keep.

My little brother used to play the game, I think. Certainly my friends at school. Always thought it's just another bomb-the-hell-out-of-who-knows-what-game. Therefore, it never caught on in Rongland. Until now, that is. It's so fun!!! I'm not usually a fan of violent, kill people type games (HATE resident evil. YUCK. HATE Doom too, for that matter.) But c&c is great. It's such a rush. Love it when you figure things out and WIN! Especially the difficult ones.

Must say, the guy who did the voice of the american rocketeers... very charming. The things a girl notices. Isn't that such a great insight. Game developers, you have my contacts. I know what a girl looks for in video games.

Truism

Saw this today and I thought I'd share.

Pesident Bush, the First Lady and VP Cheney are flying on Air Force One.
George looks at Laura, chuckles and says, "You know, I could throw a $1,000.00 bill out the window right now and make somebody very happy."
Laura shrugs her shoulders and says, "Well, I could throw ten $100.00 bills out the window and make 10 people very happy."
Cheney says, "Of course then, I could throw one-hundred $10.00 bills out the window and make a hundred people very happy."
The pilot rolls his eyes, looks at all of them and says to his co-pilot, "Such big shots back there ... hell, I could throw all of them out the window and make 56 million people very happy."

Wake me up when winter ends

It is so damn cold. And my primary source of heat is in LA scoping out scene. (More likely scoping out the girls.) Not good. (On both counts.) Having zero capacity for generating enough heat to cope with this kind of climate, I have to say give me back my summer!!!

Last night, I was under not 1 but 2 comforters, was wearing my fleece thing and was STILL cold! So cold that I didn't want any part of me touching any other part of me cos it's like ice on skin. Which was kind of a big problem, considering how huddling might help, but that ment having bodily contact with myself. Yikes. Never saw this problem coming.

I considered getting a third blanky but decided that it was too far away. I was already in bed and it was on the couch, 3 ft away. Then there was the other option of going upstairs to turn up the heat. Meaning that I would have to brave the nearly sub arctic temperatures... brrrrrr... no. So in favour of staying wraped up I reasoned that my body heat will somehow heat up the under-the-blanky-o-sphere and it'll be nice and toasty in no time. Plus, it's better for the environment anyway.

Problem is it didn't quite work till like 1 hour later. By then I was so tired, I fell asleep anyway, frozen or not.

Good thing Fred will be home tomorrow. It's kinda strange and I never thought I'd say this, after all, Fred's not the kind of guy I had in mind. Turns out, he's great. He is the bestest heat source a Zhaorong could have. Not to mention, the bestest friend a Zhaorong could have and the Zhaorongs in my previous lives must have acumulate more good karma than they knew what to do with that I get to have Fred . Can't imagine life without Fred. I mean, I'm sure I'll live and well too, but it'll be different.

Living Not Large

Property prices in LA are ridiculous. What a rude awakening when we learned that we can't have our 20 room mansion with a private bath each, which overlooks the ocean, with an olympic sized indoor pool, a lushly landscaped 100 acre backyard, with water features like a "river" with cascading waters, which leads to a 8 ft waterfall that emptys into a natural pool which has a jacuzzi for 10 attatched on the side. Plus, a herb/vegetable garden and a little citrus grove. And a fully equip mini green screen studio with a sound booth and state of the art editing suite. Also, a south facing design studio with an oversied work table with plenty of custom storage solutions for the multi disciplinary designer, which doubles as a light table and has a built in epson plotter.

Oh well. I guess we'll have to settle for a lilliputian apartment. Good thing Creativity is our business plus, Fred smarts combined with Rong smarts, it'll feel like home in no time.

Aced it

Sure did! Missed a mere 2 points out of the possible 100. I am just too good.

Losing the fabulously lame excuse to be chauffeurd around

Will be legal in a couple of hours.

It's like... Yay! I'm gonna be more independent... But boo, I'm gonna miss being driven around/back seat drivng/being lazy/doing things that drivers don't do in the car.

The test! The test! Just have to resist the urge to speed. It really doesn't help that no one... yes, absolutely NO one drives the speed limit here.

Anyway, I'm taking the dogs out for a run first.
Later.

Halloween

The kids are damn adorable!
Makes me want to have a pet baby. Minus the dirty dippers and tantrums, that is.
